“I’m Only Going For The Food”

He said to me, “you’re beautiful and you’re worth more than a meal!” When he said it, I don’t even think he realized what he said. But as I reflect on that encounter, I realize how easy it is in theory but challenging in practice to remember this truth.

I have definitely been a participant in the “I’m only going for the food” dates💁🏾‍♀️😂. But my friend is correct, I am worth more than a meal.

My sisters and my brothers, consider this truth when the person you are sure you don’t have any interest in asks you out on a date. Not to mention, it’s pretty mean and unbecoming to intentionally take advantage of other people.

Think about it, what does it really say about you? Let’s see…

1. You don’t value “your”time. People who truly understand time, tend not to waste it. Your time is valuable and should be treated as such; especially by you! If you’re willing to waste your time, why wouldn’t they be willing to do the same🤷🏾‍♀️.

2. You don’t have boundaries and would probably be open for m”any” things. People who fail to set boundaries end up with more broken pieces than they should because they failed to say no. Saying no in the beginning is better than saying “I knew it” in the end.

3.You don’t know what you need/want. When you don’t know what you need /want you end up with more negatives than positive in your life. It’s like that dreaded trip to Wal-Mart with no list, so you end up staying too long and spending too much🤦🏾‍♀️. A focused mind is a strategic mind that says, “No thanks, I don’t have time or a need for that.”

4. I’m hungry! Fair enough huh, lol! Listen, where I’m from they say when you’re hungry, you’ll eat anything! Will you?

5. I’ll try anything once! In all fairness, sometimes, you catch a unicorn in the crowd and it actually turns out to be worth your while. Buuutt, more often than not, it turns out to be just like your instincts said it would, “I’m just here for the food.”

Since that thought provoking encounter, I have become cognizant and diligently honest with myself and with any man who’s invitation I find no interest in. It is not about being shallow or stuck up but it is about no longer expecting catered meals from short order cooks.

I Thank God I can feed myself so please understand it takes more than a meal because I am worth more than a meal!

Looking back over this article, I can really admire and respect the art in this article. The inner person within me has been spoken to through this article and I do believe ” I am more than just a meal”! I never took the time over my younger years to realize how important words are, however, the older I became, the more word began to make more and more sense. This is a beautiful article for many different reasons. I would like to share this with many more people to whom I’m sure could use this kind of inspiration. Thank you Marquita! You’re such a beautiful person inside and out. Keep God first hun. Life has so much more to offer.
